Steve went on staff as a professional studio musician in 1972. Considered to be an expert in musical styles, Steve has produced a wide variety of music including big band, classical, country, gospel, church, rock-n-roll, pop and instrumental music.
Having over thirty years of experience with recording, Steve has seen the many changes in recording from the mono tape recording to two-inch multi-track recording, to the current digital/computer based recording. Keeping up with technology is as essential for any producer as understanding musical production.
Steve works in the finest studios Nashville has to offer, including The Tracking Room, Oceanway, Quad, The Sound Kitchen, The Playground and many others. In addition, ATG Studio is Steve’s personal production facility used to perfect productions without expensive studio costs.
Production services are quoted on an individual basis. Steve will talk with you and project a budget from his own budget form that has been cultivated over the last thirty years. Studio costs vary, the number of hours spent recording, overdubbing, and mixing a project varies with the material used, the length of the songs, and the estimated time it will take to get the artist’s performance recorded, edited and tuned. You will be given the opportunity to see where every dollar is spent in a very professional manner.
According to Steve, "If you are not having fun in the studio recording … you’re recording with the wrong people. We always have fun!"
Many producers, artists and smaller market recording studios avail themselves of Steve’s orchestration abilities to add woodwinds, strings, brass, harp, percussion or any other orchestral instrument to pre-existing tracks. The orchestrations can be written for you to add to your project, or Steve will be happy to write and record your orchestrations for you. Prices are often quoted in the form of a per song fee including orchestration, engineer and studio.
Frequently Steve has been asked to appear as a guest lecturer or clinician. Universities, schools and churches have invited Steve to rehearsals, conferences and banquets to instruct and inspire musicians. Steve has been called on to direct his own music with church choirs and orchestras, or to work with musicians in the new contemporary Praise and Worship bands.
Steve provides a limited number of weekends each year for such instruction, so book early. Engagement fees are $1,500 for the first day and $1,000 for each additional day. Food must be provided with all travel expenses and a moderately priced hotel accommodation.
